Green leaf tea is the least processed of the types

The Timeless Appeal of Tea: Flavor, Tradition, and Everyday Wellness

Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world and within this category, black leaf and green leaf tea are the two forms most readily known.  Both black and green teas are made from the same plant, Camellia sinensis,  however, because the method of production varies dramatically,  the experience is markedly different.

Black leaf tea has a rich, strong flavor profile.  This tea is fully oxidized after being plucked, which not only turns the leaves brown but also enhances its flavor.  The full oxidation results in black leaf tea having an amber to dark brown colored brew with a rich aroma.  Most people tend to like full, bodied black leaf tea because of its powerful taste and most people prefer this flavor in the morning.  Black leaf tea goes well with additions of milk, sugar and spices. It can also be drunk in various countries in different ways. However, black leaf tea has more of a kick from the caffeine when compared to the green leaf tea; hence many prefer this when looking for an alternative to coffee.

Green leaf tea is the least processed of the types.  Immediately after harvesting, it is quickly heated or steamed to prevent oxidation. This processes, retains the green color and the lighter taste.  Green leaf tea has a fresh and light flavor,  which could be said to be herbaceous and fresh, perhaps grass like. Green leaf tea usually has lower levels of caffeine and is loved by many for its thirst quenching and fresh taste. Green leaf tea is used in a regular daily drink due to its potential health properties and the refreshing taste.

In determining whether to choose black leaf tea or green leaf tea flavor is typically the main consideration. Black leaf tea is bold and rich,  whereas green leaf tea is smooth and light can be brought from aapkabazar. Brewing methods are a bit different as well:  Black leaf tea often requires a slightly higher water temperature and a longer steep time compared to green leaf tea where a lower temperature is more suitable so it doesn‘t taste bitter.

Taste aside,  quality and how it‘s stored is very important.  High, quality whole leaf tea,  whether it be black leaf tea or green leaf tea, will retain more flavour than the dust or crushed leaf forms. In a loose leaf tea the leaf can unfurl and the scent released. Whole leaf is often more enjoyable for tea connoisseurs.

A second area where they differ is their cultural use. Black leaf tea is the preferred base for a range of traditional blends such as breakfast teas and spice teas, while green leaf tea is traditionally drunk on its own and can be “enhanced with honey or lemon”. The two are equally drinkable hot or cold,  although this may depend on personal taste and temperature

Ultimately, black leaf tea versus green leaf tea depends on individual preference and daily habits.  For the most vigorous,  energising drink,  with a sharp kick,  try black leaf tea from aapkabazar.  For the more refreshing,  delicate cup, which offers more of a subtle taste,  then try green leaf tea.

Though they are from the same original type of tea they are unique and give a very different feeling when you drink them.  Through tasting the two of them you will know yourself better and be able to find the way you like best for a daily cup of tea.
